Have Some Say About Your Bridal Shower
Friends and family enjoy Bridal showers because it is a last chance (along with the bachelorette party) to have time with the Bride while she is still single. The Bride normally has it planned for her and it is not always what she might want it to be.
Sometimes showers have a sense of being unplanned, where anything could happen and people just go along with whatever does. Showers have an unlikely mix of guests, friends as well as family making the Bride feel uncomfortable on occasion when friends offer raunchy gifts for her honeymoon while the Bride’s grandmother and elderly great aunt look on. Without the Bride indicating a few ground rules for the organiser to be guided by things may not run as smoothly as she might like.
But if it is the Maid of Honor organizing the party then the Bride should feel able to give her input. Obviously there should be fun and laughter but it is also an opportunity to help out the Bride in her new life, with finances being tight these days couples may have specific things they need. More families are coming together for events like these and so the Bride should sit with the Maid of Humor, make it clear Grandma is going to be there, and maybe suggest some gift ideas, and give some information the Maid of Honor can pass along to the invitees.
For example the Bride may request that gifts be family friendly and most will be quite happy to comply with that. It may not just be Grandma that is invited to the shower that is a worry; some guests may even be bringing children to the event. And let’s face it, how many women really wear or use those naughty outrageous items friends buy them. Half the time they are not even the right size!
Have the Maid of Honor remind those coming to the shower what gifts are on the wedding register or if the couple do not have one, the Bride can write a few things down for the Maid of Honor to pass on. The etiquette to do this is acceptable at the shower though it is not so for the wedding itself. Also decide whether it is a shower for children or not. You need to consider that some guests want to have fun and relax which they are less able to do if children are there.
