Where to Find First Communion Gifts?
Thursday, September 10th, 2009The First Communion is a person’s first reception of the sacrament of Eucharist and a Roman Catholic ceremony; however, it is also practiced by some Protestant ethnicities such as the Lutherans. It is usually performed at age 7 or 8.
Such a tradition includes family gatherings accompanied by the fancy dressings to celebrate the occasion. Usually a veil and white gown is worn by girls to symbolize ‘purity’. However, the type of dressing varies from culture to culture and quite lavish and expensive dressing is witnessed in some countries. On the other hand, some wear dresses passed on from elder siblings and mothers. In some cultures like in South America, boys wear military suits to celebrate First Communion while in others; a simple dress is worn with crosses adorned.
Just like Baptism, it’s a religious occasion and hence gifts of a spiritual nature are given that depict the Christian religion. These include; bible, rosaries, religious jewellery and even dresses.
First Communion gifts are usually bought from Catholic stores that deal with accessories and gifts related to the occasion. Many of these are emerging to be online stores to make gift giving and purchases more readily accessible and hassle free while being able to pick the right gift.
